20th Annual Mayor's Charity Ball a great success!
With the help of our many sponsors, volunteers, and guests, the Ball raised $164,808 for Kids on the Block! More than 500 people gathered for a festive evening "South of the Border, dfown Mexico Way" on February 6, 2009, to celebrate the 20th Annual Mayor's Charity Ball and say "adios" and "gracias" to former Mayor Ed and First Lady Candy Gormley and officially welcome new Mayor Rick and First Lady Candy Olson.
Through the vision and leadership of former Mayor Ed and Candy Gormley, the Mayor's Charity Ball was created in 1989 and has been a successful and fun event for the past 20 years. Monies raised from the Ball provide approximately one-third of the annual KOB budget and allow KOB to keep this program available and at a reasonable cost to all families.
The need for scholarship assistance is on the rise. Enrollment in the KOB program is at an all time high with 675 kids registered for Spring Session 2009 (100+ more than Spring Session 2008). More families requested financial assistance either through full scholarships or discounted rates (children who qualify for free and reduced lunches are eligible), and now more than ever, the need is great for continued support and fundraising.
Your support makes a difference! Thank you!
